Edna (“Pia Maria Calvani) Nichols, the last remaining sibling of the large pioneer Carlsbad family of Torello and Erselia Calvani died on Tuesday, November 11, 2008. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, November 15, at St. Edward Catholic Church, the family parish church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chester Nichols, and sons: Ronald and Stanley. Survivors include her daughters: Vivian and husband, Edward Casados of Los Alamos, and Beverly Nichols of Las Cruces, and fiancé Jack Skinner of Ruidoso; daughters-in-law: Ann Nichols of Carlsbad, and Christine Nichols of Arlington, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edna’s death marks the end of an era for the Calvani Family in the United States.
